Asian leaf vegetable seeds sowed outside in end of August has sprouted nicely with germination rate almost 100%. Before the first true leaves develop, the leaves shapes look similar between the Asian leaf vegetable (brassica) family. I would have trouble identifying which is which without labels.
Mustard Spinach @ Komatsuna (小松菜):
Choy sum :
Cabbage ‘Red Choi’ F1 hybrid ~ The red hue will help to identify this veggie apart from the same close family:
Hon tsai tai @ Purple flower choy sum ~ The purple stem will help to differentiate it from other close relatives:
Seed propagation:
- Evening sun sunflower (home save seed)
- Sunflower Mammoth (Eden seed)
- Pumpkin Golden Nugget (Eden seed)
- Sweetcorn Early Gem (Eden seed)
- Snake bean (home save seed)
- Okra ‘ Clemson Spineless’ (home save seed)
They look like cute tiny butterflies to me. :) Actually the first 2 leaves are not considered true leaves. That's why many of them look similar. The next 2 leaves should be different. So did the white eggs hatched?
ReplyDeleteOh! Miss the Raya wish to you.
ReplyDeleteSelamat Hari Raya...
Wow, those sure are exotic vegetables! I'm quite envious. I get only get mizuna where I live (Netherlands). I love it, especially as it grows very early in the year (before any other vegetable).
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog in August. I grow dahlia's from tuber. They are readily available here - in all the colors of the rainbow.
大阪はやっと猛暑日が峠を越えました。やっと秋冬野菜の準備ができます。とりあえず白菜、大根はmustです。
ReplyDeleteAt last we can feel the end of hot summer this week!
That can allow us to start preparation of autumn-winter vegetables.
Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Your garden looks lovely. Your traditional feast sounded delicious too.
