Another Adopted One ( Cotyledon)

This is another plant that we adopted together with Arum Green Goddess blooming side by side in the garden at the moment. I still have no idea what plant this is. Not very good with this type of plants. I thought it does not produce any flower, how naive can I be. Still am novice in this part of group plants. I hope you can help me identify this plant. The flowers are slightly reddish and in a shape like bell.
This is how the plant actually look like growing in pot.
A drought-hardy plant and thrive without care.
Never got any fertiliser since we adopted this plant.
Suddenly a flower stalk appeared in the middle.
Just noticed that there is a yellow insect nestling between the bud.
Do you know what it is?
Apparently not a good bug.
Infested the flower stalk and causes it to rot and not blooming.
Weird never seen this bug on other plants before.
Lucky some flower stalk were save and free from that bug.
The flower does take a long time to bloom from the emerging buds.
It took several months before the buds finally open and bloom.
New Blooms.
Have a lovely weekend!
Are you staying indoors for Olympic or outdoors gardening :).

  1. MKG dear,
We used to plant this in Sydney. It's a succulent, thus less water but plenty of sunshine. Ours was in a pot. Grows very fast and had to be repotted often. Very easy to propagate. har har har *evil laughs*

  2. Oh dear. I have no clue what it is either, but the shape reminds me of lily of the valley. Does it have any fragrance?

  3. The plant is some sort of cotyledon but I'm not sure which one try try this link and this one

As for the Olympics definitely outdoors trouble is every time we come in we are held hostage by the games if we turn on the TV. The BBC has dumped all it's regular programmes and has 'opened' 24 extra channels for wall to wall coverage.

  11. Can't help you with the ID, but are you on facebook? There's a group there called Plant Idents. Most of those identifying seem to be based in the UK, but these people are serious plant scholars and can identify ANYTHING very specifically if you post a photo.

  13. Succulents rarely flower for me. Yours is amazing. it looks like a type of kalanchoe to me but I have not grown this one before. Fyi, when pest attacks a succulent plant, it is very hard to get rid of it.

  14. It is raining here and so there is no gardening for me today. I am not complaining as we are absolutely desperate for rain. I am not sure about your first flower, but the second looks like a jade plant.

  18. Cat-from-Sydney~Interesting I do find that it grows very fast and need to be repotted often too. Easy to care too since the rainwater is sufficient for the plants to grow well under harsh condition.

Mama Pongkey~ Hmmm...I don't think this plants have a fragrance.

Sue~Thank you so much, I also think it is some sort of cotyledon as well. The Olympics had made my husband almost late to work everyday ;-).

    Mark~Hahaha I watched that too.

Jody~It just happened the plants that we received are drought-tolerant plant and lucky guesses.

  19. Stephanie~I did not realised that they will flower for us because we did not take care of them at all. Its strange that pests only attacks the flower parts.

Hearts_in_Asia~ Thank you for helping us check it out. Now I have more knowledge on 'kalanchoe'.

Jennifer~We are also desperately waiting for some rain so the plants can continue have a happy look in the garden.

    Sonia~Lee CW did well.

  20. I believe this succulent is of the genus Aeonium. JGH's comment above was noticed and quoted on Plant Ident's Facebook page, from which I clicked to see your lovely photos here.
